Too often we are being asked for advice on supposed 'draft legal agreements' prepared by ‘business advisors’.
These people should not be carrying out legal work.
Apart from the fact that it leaves them open to prosecution pursuant to Section 12 of the Legal Professional Act 2008 and a significant fine, they always make mistakes and sometimes those mistakes can’t be fixed depending on how far down the track the client has taken the agreement.
If you want to have legal work done by non-lawyers, or do it yourself, be our guest but you have to ask yourself if you had appendicitis would you dispense with the need for a surgeon and perform your own appendectomy, with or without pain relief.
